Our History

2014
A 9-year-old girl in the village called Dukono was engaged to married and the community planned a FGM ceremony. This provoked a drive by Ariefa to give her a right to education and protect her from marriage.
Soap given to the community (Dukono) to prevent Ebola was actually being thrown away by people who believed the soap itself caused Ebola. This showed the need for the community to receive education in other ways, as well. These two factors and many more provoked Ariefa to desire wider community education.

Through Ariefa’s efforts to galvanize the community, the engagement was dissolved through community pressure. The community also banded together to build the first school out of bamboo sticks and palm front and collect fees to pay for a teacher and for supplies.

The 9-year-old girl was the first student enrolled.
Formerly, Children’s Education Foundation (CEF-SL), Her Future Foundation was established in 2014 by our parent and supervisory organization called ‘’Global Youth Network for Empowerment and Development’’.

Her Future Foundation has been working assiduously in ensuring that children living in deprived and vulnerable communities in Koinadugu and Falaba District have access to equal and quality education, sexual reproductive health information/services and resources to escape extreme poorvaty (with a special focus on girls).

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.

Space for women’s voices, to pursue other options in life and supporting them to find resources on the one hand and providing children with basic education and adults with access to livelihood opportunities that will build up the communities as a whole.
